Iwao Takamoto

Iwao Takamoto was one of members of the fraternity of cartoonists who pioneered the golden age of theatrical cartoons in the 1940s. While at Walt Disney Studios, he worked on short animated cartoons as well as full-length feature films including, “Cinderella,” “Peter Pan,” “Lady and The Tramp,” and “101 Dalmations.” In 1960, he moved to Hanna-Barbera, where he began to reinvent cartoons for television. He became a guiding creative force for Hanna-Barbera, designing Scooby-Doo, among other characters. Virtually all the characters and cartoons released by Hanna-Barbera over the last three decades have been touched by the design and artistry of Iwao Takamoto.
